Family and Consumer Sciences

The FACS program empowers students to become contributing family members, productive problem solvers, responsible citizens, quality workers, and continuing learners.

Students apply cooking techniques to creating recipes that will help them maintain their physical well-being. They will learn about childcare and the importance of maintaining their clothing and personal environment. Student will explore careers while developing their leadership and responsibility skills. Students will practice the appropriate communication skills needed to maintain their personal safety and help them succeed in their lifetime.

Business & Information Technology and Engineering

Both the Business Information courses as well as the Technology in Education Courses provide students with active learning experiences that allow participants to explore technology and related careers.

The Business and Information Technology courses in middle school provide students with hands-on instruction utilizing basic technology skills.  Students learn to develop multimedia presentations, code simple programs, explore new technology and learn  about a variety of careers through authentic projects.

Middle School Technology and Engineering Education programs in Fairfax County Public Schools provide active learning situations that allow students to explore engineering and related careers. Students explore different technologies, learn the problem solving process through the Engineering Design Process, and become technologically literate. Course activities are designed to integrate grade level mathematics and science. The content covered in all modules reinforces the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) in math, science, language arts, social studies and technology.

Engineering (Semester)

This course challenges young men and women of all levels to develop higher order problem solving skills by stimulating creativity in a hands-on (problem based) learning environment. Academic subject disciplines such as applied physics, algebra, and geometry powerfully come alive as students design, build, and test modern structure and vehicle prototypes. Students physically demonstrate these concepts in real world applications with a focus on critical thinking skills and problem solving.
