SOL UPDATE - Schedule & Intent Form
The SOL Testing Calendar has been posted. Students should check their @fcpsschools.net email daily for information about their SOL testing dates and locations. If your student is not taking an SOL, they will have the opportunity to attend Virtual Study Halls.
Sign Up for VIP Camp at SCMS June 28th - July 29th
VIP Camp will be held Mondays - Fridays, June 28th through July 29th beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 pm. The South County MS VIP site will serve rising & current middle school students from: South County, Frost and Irving Middle Schools as well as Lake Braddock and Robinson Secondary Schools.
SCMS Summer Programing
SCMS will be hosting two exciting summer programs during the month of July! Selected rising 7th graders will be invited to participate in Young Scholars, to develop talents and prepare them for rigorous courses as they advance to middle school. A new program, IMAGINE, will invite students to strengthen core Mathematics and Language Arts skills. IMAGINE aims to prepare for success in the next grade, by focusing on essential knowledge through authentic tasks and project based learning.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Tech Diversity talk on STEM!
The TJ PTSA Diversity Committee is pleased to announce it will be hosting a virtual event on 15 May 2021, an online virtual conference featuring several area STEM education providers, including those that offer free and reduced fee services for low-income households. The purpose of this event is to inform the community of those services available for aspiring TJ candidates currently in Elementary and Middle School.

COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment Scheduling
People 16 years and older may schedule an appointment to receive one of the three available free COVID-19 vaccines at Fairfax County Health Department clinics, the Tysons Community Vaccination Center, or the George Mason University. A parent or other adult (18 years and over) must physically accompany a minor at the COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
Updated Grading Policy for FCPS Secondary Schools
As shared in an email from the Superintendent’s Office, FCPS has adopted a series of secondary grading policy changes to help our students achieve a strong finish to the school year.
FCPS is adjusting the grading policy for the 2020-21 school year, to ensure students are not penalized by the challenges brought on by pandemic learning. Action Needed: Should you wish to designate one or more courses as Pass - No Mark status, you must submit the lined form to your school counselor by May 10, 2021.
Greetings from the SCMS Yearbook!
We are happy to announce a new method for submitting portraits to the Yearbook. Please keep an eye out for an email from Jostens’ Yearbook Plus (YBK+) program.
The email will easily guide you and your student through the process to take and upload a yearbook portrait. If you have already submitted a photo of your student or they attended the picture day event at school you may disregard the email. Please plan to submit your student’s portrait no later than May 1st.
No-Cost Meals for All FCPS Students through June 30, 2021
Grab and Go meal sites are open 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Meal Kits sites distribute each Monday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., or until supplies are exhausted. Buses distributing meals are operating Monday through Friday. Meals will be available at no-cost Monday-Friday at all schools with in-person instruction. Specific information about meal distribution locations and bus distribution schedules are available.
Parent Technology Help Desk
To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools now has a Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.
